Happy National Pina Colada Day!
I’ve always loved a good pina colada. However, finding the perfect, homemade pina colada, that doesn’t rely on some overly sweet, “flavored” mix, is sometimes difficult.
Last year, we ventured to Havana for Memorial Day weekend, and I found the perfect pina colada, and it right there in my Air BnB. Alain, the day manager, offered to make me a pina colada, since he was out of limes and couldn’t make a mojito, and lucky for me, I accepted his offer. Thinking back, I’m not sure if he understood how many pina coladas I would have him make over that weekend getaway, but he was always happy to indulge me and would often bring them to the rooftop deck for me.
On our last evening in Havana, I asked if I could watch him make it, take notes, and photograph everything, and the perfect pina colada came home with me!
