Given the summer like temps that we’ve had recently, we need some cooler days and night. For the first time this season, it’s finally supposed to get cool/cold tonight. As soon as the temperature drops below 70, many Floridians break out the chili making ingredients, and chili is great…I LOVE chili! However, how about somethingContinue reading “Spicy Corn & Crab Chowder”
I’m a baker, and I have been since my first 4-H cooking class when I was 8 years old. Before I could boil pasta, I could make yeast bread and orange marmalade. Before I could cook myself a meal, I was baking award winning cakes. I’ve learned a lot since then. I no longer haveContinue reading “Not Your Typical Holiday Dessert…Brandied Caramel & Pecan Cream Cheese Pound Cake”
Yes, gentlemen, it really does exist! A cookie crust filled with more chocolate chip cookie, caramel, chocolate, and pretzel pieces, and topped off with massive amounts of peanut butter! People constantly ask me how I’m able to bake all the things that I make and be a diabetic at the same time. I always say, “it’sContinue reading “Chubby Hubby PIE…”
For some reason, I love small, individualized desserts. Maybe it’s because they’re so personal; maybe it’s because they’re perfect platings. Either way, I love the fact that each person gets their own little masterpiece…not just a slice of a beautiful work of art.
A couple of years ago, my (then) 10 year old decided that he wanted to bake a cake for our local 4-H/FFA Youth Fair. I agreed to teach him, but he had to decide what kind/flavor he wanted to bake. He decided on a chocolate & peanut butter cake, which shouldn’t surprise me since I’mContinue reading “Cuban Espresso Dark Chocolate Cake with Salted Dulce De Leche Frosting”
There are times when a good pantry, refrigerator, and freezer clean out are needed. Digging all the way to the back of the pantry or freezer will at times turn up items that you can’t even remember buying, but as long as they aren’t freezer burned or out of date/stale, you owe it to yourContinue reading “The Ultimate Pantry & Freezer Meal…Zuppa di Ravioli”
This one is totally for my husband and son. They LOVE mint chocolate chip ice cream, Andes candies, after dinner mints, Thin Mint cookies, and anything else that’s chocolatey and minty. As my husband said, “I’m gonna love it and hug it and make it my very own!”
Let me begin by saying, yeast bread dough is probably the most versatile “ingredient” you can learn to make. Basic yeast dough can be turned into so many different meals. From cinnamon roll breakfasts to pizzas, yeast dough can become sweet or savory with the addition/deletion of flavorings and fillings.
Disclaimer: My husband is a health nut. He works out every day…running, weights, bike. He’s lost 100lbs, and his only vice is…BUTTERCREAM!
After my husband & I met, he had one simple request our first Christmas together–to make his mother’s chocolate bread. I’m not sure if he was excited to be dating someone who could bake or if he was testing me. Either way, the chocolate bread worked, and we were engaged less than a month afterContinue reading “Barb’s Chocolate Cherry Bread–a Holiday Tradition”
